BlackBerry acquires data security startup WatchDox

(Telecompaper) BlackBerry has agreed to acquire Israeli company WatchDox to boost its enterprise file-sync-and-share security. No financial details of the transaction were disclosed but Israeli business daily Globes said Blackberry is paying USD 100 million for the company, according to unnamed sources. WatchDox provides secure enterprise file-sync-and-share (EFSS) solutions that allow users to protect, share and work with their files on any device. Blackberry will offer WatchDox's technology as a value-added service to complete its Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) portfolio. It will be available with its BES12 cross-platform EMM service.

Google's push to encrypt ads will improve security, but won't kill malvertising

Google plans to serve most of its ads over encrypted HTTPS connections by the end of June, a move that will protect against some ad hijacking attacks and will encourage website owners to enable encryption on their Web properties. However, malicious advertising attacks that direct users to Web-based exploits will still be possible and, because of the new encryption, it will be harder for security researchers to pinpoint their source.

Airline security stops researcher who tweeted hacking joke

United Airlines stopped a prominent security researcher from boarding a California-bound flight late Saturday, following a social media post by the researcher days earlier suggesting the airline's onboard systems could be hacked. The researcher, Chris Roberts , attempted to board a United flight from Colorado to San Francisco to speak at a major security conference there this week, but was stopped by the airline's corporate security at the gate.
