Component Technology Engineer

We are looking for a Component Technology Engineer E3 to join our Modis Aerospace team, working onsite at the European Space Agency in the Netherlands. Modis Aerospace is a specialized Engineering consultancy with more than 30 years experience providing aerospace Engineers to our key partners in The Netherlands. Modis is a longstanding business partner of the European Space Agency ESA, with more than 120 employees recruited from across Europe currently supporting ESAs activities. Specific tasks to be performed Providing expert technical support and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes and general studies in the field of photonic components throughout all project phases with an emphasis on support to detector procurements for ESA projects. Requesting support from, defining test plans and reviewing test reports from the EEE components laboratory in physical destructive analysis, constructional analysis or failure analysis of photonics components, and performing laboratory activities as required Defining, initiating and managing RD activities within the Agencys technology programmes related to development, evaluation and qualification of photonic EEE Components. General tasks to be performed Support the Component Technology Section in the following domains Optoelectronics devices, Hybrids, RF and Microwave technologies, VLSI, Passive components, MNT, w.r.t. design, manufacturing and testing, standardisation and qualification. Production of reports, presentations and other pertinent documentation incl. web publications in English language. To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required Master degree in Electrical Engineering, Physical science or related specialisation related to the subject EEE component area. General background and specific experience in the technical domains covered by the position, e.g. experience in manufacturing of photonic components, or experience in performing inspections of detectors. Handson hardware experience Understanding of related technologies, RD trends and the industrial landscape Project support experience in a relevant domain About ESAESTEC The European Space Agency ESA has sites in several European countries. The European Space Research and Technology Centre ESTEC is the largest site and the technical heart of ESA. This nursery of European space activities is located in Noordwijk, Netherlands. In Noordwijk, people work on science missions, manned space missions, Earth observation, telecommunications and navigation satellites. Specific tasks to be performed The RD Technology Engineer will support the Management and Implementation of the General Support Technology Programme and of the Technology Development Element of the Basic Activities by carrying out the following main tasks Evaluation of proposals for technology RD activities on their technical merit, consistency and defined priorities. Preparation of the planning of the Technology programmes and of inflight demonstration opportunities in close collaboration with representatives from technical support and programme departments. Managing assigned RD activities. Monitoring of the implementation of the programmes and of activities, as appropriate, and provision of management information as required. Monitoring of the consistency of the various ProgrammesInitiatives withrespect to other ongoing technology programmes and defined industrial policy objectives. Evaluation of the results and support the dissemination of technology achievements e.g. support the preparation of workshops and final presentation days General tasks to be performed Followup and monitoring the conduction of concerted technology actions, mainly linked to Technology programmes. Evaluation of the results and preparation of periodic overview publications. Operation of the associated management information tools and system databases. Support to the Harmonization process implementation and monitoring also through the utilisation of dedicated IT tools, and contributing to their continuous improvement. Supporting the initial evaluation of the technical and financial possibilities to transfer andor commercialize technologies identified in dedicated work packages relating to commercial evaluation as an outcome of ESA technology development contracts especially those resulting from TRPGSTP funding and ensuring that the Technology. To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required A PhD or Msc Engineering from a recognised Institution of secondary studies or equivalent preferably space related. An additional qualification in Business Administration would be an asset. Familiarity and experience in the RD area and technology development processes, in particular in the space sector, is a distinctive advantage. Knowledge of ProgrammeProject management and controlling methods and tools. Ability to interface with ESA staff at all levels. Demonstrated ability to analyse and synthesise complex information. Good verbal and written communications. Rigor, commitment and reliability in the execution of the assigned tasks. Proactive attitude to solving problems, identify priority actions and to handle high workload. Autonomy, authority and ability to interface with ESA staff at all levels.
