Magine to launch online video streaming in China

Ziggo, Virgin to bring online video channel to STB

(Telecompaper) Ziggo will launch an online video service for TV customers, based on a native app in the set-top box, Variety reports from the TV of Tomorrow show in San Francisco, CA.. Los Angeles based startup Frequency has attracted USD 11 million in funding from several companies including Liberty Global. Frequency aggregates and bundles online videofeeds into one licensed package. Sources are large MCN's, TV-networks and YouTube producers. The production of 'Made for the Web'is increasing, with producers launching web-exclusive content alongside more traditional content. An example is AMC's Talking Dead series. Frequency founder and CEO Blair Harrison says his company has reached licensing agreements with leading content producers as well as the rights to show its own advertising. The frequency.com websites shows long form and short form content from various sources, including NASA, ABC News, CNN, Mashable and TechCrunch. Many of the curated "Staff Picks" are pulled from YouTube. Frequency wants to add its platform for content discovery, curation and personalization. Liberty Global will roll out a video service to set-top boxes that can run native apps. Ziggo in the Netherlands abd Virgin in the UK are the first markets, followd by other Liberty global markets. A Ziggo spokesman confirms that there are talks, but declines further comment.
