In the Philippines, a Vortex of Climate Change and Debt
2013-12-24 06:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Inter Press Service: Since Typhoon Yolanda made landfall in the Philippines on Nov. 8, the country has sent holders of its debt close to one billion dollars, surpassing, in less than two months, the 800 million dollars the U.N. has asked of international donors to help rebuild the ravaged central region of the archipelago. Even as the Philippines goes hat in hand to wealthier countries seeking disaster relief, it continues to diligently pay creditors in those same countries millions of dollars every day much of it...

Webb Vortex Drums Released for High Frequency Stopping Applications
2013-11-12 15:51:00| Waste Age
Chris K. Cullman, AL (November 11, 2013) Webb Severe Duty has released a lineup of Webb Vortex brake drums for applications such as refuse trucks that are subjected to a higher frequency of braking stops compared to standard commercial vehicles. The Webb Vortex severe duty drum designs dissipate brake heat and lower the average brake operating temperature versus the performance of standard brake drums, lowering lifecycle costs for these types of operations. read more

Vortex Improves Clear Action Slide Gate
2013-10-15 06:00:00| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
SALINA, KAN., USA — Vortex's self-cleaning Clear Action Gate has been a reliable valve to handle powders, granular, or pellets in gravity flow or pneumatic conveying systems since its original release thirty years ago. Mounted horizontally, the machined square-edged blade mechanically clears the material from the sealing surfaces on each closing cycle allowing it to discharge beneath the valve. The square blade and seal design eliminates the open cavities where material collects in ...This story is related to the following:Architectural and Civil Engineering ProductsSearch for suppliers of: Gate Valves |
Twisted laser vortex breakthrough could lead to near-infinite bandwidth, new science
2013-09-24 17:16:33| Extremetech
Scientists at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) have devised a new way of creating twisted laser beams -- optical vortexes -- for carrying vast, near-infinite amounts of data down optical fiber, discovering exoplanets, and more. SLAC's optical vortex technology is much more advanced than previous attempts at creating and transmitting twisted light, allowing for shorter pulses, higher intensities, and much wider wavelengths -- including X-rays.
