Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Description Radio Navigation Engineer in the Radio Navigation Systems Techniques Section, Radio Frequency Systems Division, Radio Frequency Systems and Payloads Office, Electrical Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. The postholder will report to the Head of the Radio Navigation Systems Techniques Section. Duties The Radio Navigation Systems and Techniques Section provides functional support to ESA projects and performs technological research RD on radio navigation systems, techniques and equipment for ground and space applications. The postholders tasks and responsibilities will include supporting navigation projects EGNOS, Galileo in system design and development participating in studies, simulations and laboratory testing to assess endtoend functionalities and performance, including measurement campaigns, data processing and field testing design, simulation, development and testing of radio navigation equipment, techniques for groundspace applications participating in studies supporting the definition andor analysis of future RN systems EGNOSGalileo evolution, GPS modernisation regarding system, signals in space, user technologies contributing to generating innovative ideas in the field of RN generating technical requirements and statements of work for tasks to be performed by industry from early concept studies through to full hardware development monitoring contracts with industry for RN concept studies and corresponding toolsequipment development contributing to developmentuse of laboratory facilities in support of development testing of RN systems monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends, maintaining stateoftheart expertise contributing to the dissemination of results of activities performed and knowledge transfer across the Agency. Technical competencies General background and experience in the technical domains covered by the position Radio navigation principles, systems and technology Understanding of related technologies, RD trends and the industrial landscape Project support experience in a relevant domain Experience with laboratory or field testing of relevant technical equipment Experience in the preparation of procurement activities for technology development and innovation e.g. statements of work, proposal evaluation Experience in the management and monitoring of industrial activities, including participation in reviews Behavioural competencies Communication Customer focus Innovation creativity Problem solving Results orientation Planning organisation Additional requirements Applicants should have a sound background in satellite radio navigation systems GPS, EGNOS, Galileo plus several years work experience in these fields. Education Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in telecommunications or electronic engineering. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset. The Agency may require applicants to undergo selection tests. Overall Navigation System Engineering experience, preferably including implementation, maintenance and operation of complex Radio Navigation processing, simulation and test facilities for spacecraft, aircraft, maritime and land mobile applications.
