Shareholders in Finnish telecom group Nokia are widely expected to approve the company's acquisition of French-American rival Alcatel-Lucent at an extraordinary general meeting in H elsinki on Wednesday. Once the world's top mobile phone maker, Nokia hopes the merger will help it become the world's number one network equipment and service provider, with a combined revenue of nearly 25 billion euros .

TRC expands to pipeline services in $130M deal

TRC Companies Inc. has completed its acquisition of the professional services segment of the Willbros Group in an all-cash transaction valued at $130 million, the company announced Tuesday. The Lowell-based engineering, environmental consulting and construction-management firm will use the acquisition to create its fourth operating segment, Pipeline Services.

FirstEnergy proposes deal setting rates for next 8 years

FirstEnergy is asking utility regulators to approve short-term rate increases for about 2 million customers in Ohio in order to sustain operations at some of its older coal and nuclear plants. The Akron-based power company submitted an 8-year settlement agreement to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio Tuesday after 16 months of wrangling.
