Hatchtech inks $279m head lice deal as VC market comes to life

Australian pharmaceutical company Hatchtech has inked a deal worth up to $279 million with Indian giant Dr. Reddy's for the commercialisation of its innovative head lice treatment. Dr Reddy's Laboratories, a $US10.3 billion integrated pharmaceutical group listed in New York, will pay Hatchtech an undisclosed upfront fee, up to $85 million in pre-commercialisation milestone payments, and the remainder of the $279 million subject to sales-based milestones.

Oil Search will formally reject a $11.6 billion takeover bid from Woodside after the Papua New Guinea-focused energy producer dramatically cancelled a scheduled meeting with its rival in Sydney on Sunday to discuss the deal. Woodside's chief executive and chairman, Peter Coleman and Michael Chaney, were due to travel to Sydney from Perth to meet with their equivalents at Oil Search, Peter Botten and Rick Lee, for the first talks since the approach was tabled on September 3. However, it emerged on Sunday afternoon the meeting had been canned despite both sides agreeing to a time and venue late last week.

Ann Arbor-based shipping company Con-Way is expected to be sold next month to XPO Logistics for $3 billion. was listed at $35.53 per share, but had jumped to over $47 by 10 a.m. "This landmark transaction provides immediate cash value for our shareholders and reflects the outstanding contributions of our employees over our 86-year history," said Con-way president and CEO Douglas Stotlar in the release.
