Swiss electronics company TE Connectivity Ltd is said to be nearing a deal to sell its network equipment unit to CommScope Holding Co Inc for about $3 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The deal does not include the networking business' subsea fiber optics operation, which is used by telecom and oil and gas customers, the Journal reported.

Energy Transfer to buy Regency Energy in $18 billion deal

Energy Transfer Partners LP agreed to buy all the publicly traded units in Regency Energy Partners LP, a pipeline company that it controls, in a deal that values the target at about $18 billion including debt. The cash-and-stock deal offers Regency investors $26.89 a unit, a 13 percent premium based on the Jan. 23 closing price, the companies said in a joint statement today.

China shares edge up, airlines boosted by Australia deal

The CSI300 index rose 36.25 points, or 1.01 percent, to 3,607.9846, while the Shanghai Composite Index which tracks all the stocks on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, gained 32.18 points, or 0.96 percent, to 3,383.9444. China Eastern Airlines jumped 5.1 percent, Air China rose 3.9 percent and China Southern Airlines adding 2.7 percent after a pact was announced on Friday between China and Australia which lets both countries' carriers immediately add 4,000 seats a week to current caps between Australia's major gateway cities and the Chinese cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

A package deal: MeadWestvaco, Rock-Tenn join to form $16 billion behemoth

Rock-Tenn and MeadWestvaco will join forces to create a $16 billion packaging company, driving down its own costs and possibly gaining the scale to better dictate prices. The company, which had not been named as of Monday, will have combined sales of $15.7 billion and its board will include eight directors from Rock-Tenn and six directors from MeadWestvaco.
