Washington Post: Ever since negotiators failed to agree on a climate accord in Copenhagen five years ago, diplomats have been trying for a big, international do-over. Talks in Lima, Peru, this month put this effort on track to conclude an agreement in Paris next year. The trade-off is that the accord will be insufficiently ambitious and difficult to enforce, in part because of the intransigence of developing countries. Airberlin, Germany's second largest airline, and Bulgaria Air will launch codeshare flights on some European routes from January 14 next year, austrianaviation.net has reported. Under the codeshare agreement, airberlin will apply its AB airline code on Bulgaria Air flights from Berlin, Frankfurt and Vienna to Sofia.

Merck begins offer for Cubist shares in $8.4 billion deal

The drugmaker Merck is launching its previously-disclosed $8.4 billion offer to buy Cubist Pharmaceuticals shares in a deal that aims to strengthen its ability to treat serious infections, an issue drawing growing concern globally. Merck said earlier this month that it will pay $102 in cash for each share of Cubist, which represented a 37 percent premium to the stock's closing price before the deal was announced.
