AIA welcomes ambitious new CO2 emissions standard for commercial airplanes proposed by the International Civil Aviation Organization Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection in Montreal, Canada. Goal of this certification standard is to reduce CO2 emissions from aviation by encouraging integration of fuel efficient technologies into aircraft design and development, and is part of broader set of actions aimed at tackling aviation’s climate change impact.

AIA welcomes House vote on R&D tax credit extension.

AIA welcomes House vote to permanently extend research and development tax credit which lapsed at the end of 2014. This credit supports companies that invest working capital in basic research and in applied research aimed at the creation or improvement of products. More than 70% of the credit is used to fund salaries of R&D workers who hold high-quality jobs that fuel the national economy, while remainder is applied to investment in new plants and equipment.

According to statement by AIA President and CEO David F. Melcher, AIA is pleased Congress has passed the 2016 Omnibus Appropriations Bill, which avoids a year-long continuing resolution. FAA is to receive $16.3 billion, including increases for Next Gen air transportation modernization initiatives and unmanned aircraft system integration. NASA funding is increased to $19.3 billion, NOAA will receive $5.8 billion for fiscal year 2016, and DOD is slated to receive base budget of $514.1 billion.

In his statement regarding reauthorization of Export Import Bank of the United States, AIA's David F. Melcher congratulated House and Senate on coming together to produce transportation bill of considerable length and duration. In particular, Melcher lauded said bill's role as 4-year reauthorization of Export-Import Bank of the United States. "By reauthorizing the Bank," said Melcher, "America is sending a clear signal that we are serious about competing in the global marketplace."
