(Telecompaper) Telenor said that, as a result of the external review by Deloitte of the group's handling and oversight of its minority ownership in VimpelCom, it has temporarily relieved CFO Richard Olav Aa and General Counsel Pal Wien Espen of their responsibilities. It has taken the same measure with its former nominees to the VimpelCom executive committee, Fridtjof Rusten, who is CFO at Telenor's Thai subsidiary Dtac, and Ole Bjorn Sjulstad, who is head of Telenor Russia.

New-car sales in Russia fell 39 percent in October, increasing the pace of decline during the country's economic slump. Sales dropped to 129,958 last month after a 29 percent drop in September, the Association of European Businesses in Russia said on Tuesday.

Russian spy ships and subs reportedly are hovering close to the routes of undersea communications cables. Military and intelligence officials apparently have observed increased Russian sub activity near cables located from the North Sea to Northeast Asia, as well as in waters close to American shores.
