Upper House MP Catherine Cusack says her attempt to introduce a similar scheme in 2011 was stymied by a threat from the beverage industry to launch a multi-million-dollar advertising campaign attacking the Coalition's plans. "The beverage industry, frankly, has been masterful in putting off a container-deposit scheme even though all the opinion polls show it's what the public wants, even though we know how much better it will be for the environment," she said.
