MTN Group CEO resigns over Nigeria fine

(Telecompaper) MTN Group CEO Sifiso Dabengwa has resigned with immediate effect. A statement from the company said Phuthuma Nhleko, the current non-executive chairman has agreed to act as executive chairman for up to six months while the company identifies a successor for Dabengwa. In his resignation, Dabengwa said "due to the most unfortunate prevailing circumstances occurring at MTN Nigeria," he has in the interest of the company and its shareholders tendered his resignation with immediate effect. Nhleko was CEO until March 2011 when Dabengwa took over. Alan van Biljon will continue to serve as the Lead Independent Director on the MTN board of directors whilst Nhleko takes over executive responsibility.

Michael L. Babich has resigned as president and CEO of Insys Therapeutics, a specialty drugmaker under investigation over sales of its powerful painkiller Subsys. Shares of the Chandler, Arizona, company jumped almost 10 percent Thursday morning as the company also announced third-quarter earnings that trumped analyst expectations and said it was buying back some stock.

Telenor chairman Aaser resigns after disagreement with state

(Telecompaper) Telenor's chairman Svein Aaser has resigned, effective immediately, following a disagreement with the company's largest shareholder, the Norwegian state. Aaser has served as chairman of Telenor since May 2012. Aaser said in a statement that he had "different views on the handling of the VimpelCom issue" than the Norwegian ministry responsible for managing the Telenor stake. Telenor recently announced that it plans to sell its minority stake in Russia-based Vimpelcom. Aaser said he assessed his own position as part of the review of Telenor's ownership in Vimpelcom. ""VimpelCom has been under investigation for several years, and this has been challenging for Telenor," Aaser said. "I would like to emphasize that it is VimpelCom that is under investigation and that Telenor has fully cooperated with investigating authorities as a witness. The company continues to await the outcome of the investigation."
