Air Transport World announced Friday that Southwest Airlines is its 2015 Airline of the year, citing the carrier's "extraordinary and consistent standards of service, financial performance, safety, and environmental and corporate responsibility." "CEO Gary Kelly's leadership has allowed the airline to become the USA's largest in terms of originating domestic passengers, as well as one of the world's safest airlines," ATW editor-in-chief Karen Walker said in the magazine's announcement.

Hawaiian Airlines President and CEO Mark Dunkerley celebrated with the airline's 10 millionth passenger this year, Harrison Matthews, before he boarded Flight 386 from Honolulu to Kahului, Maui, Thursday morning. The airline has come a long way, as it took 38 years for the company to reach its first cumulative 10 million passengers.
