(Telecompaper) Manx Telecom may be a small operator, its takeover by Basalt Infrastructure Partners was last week's biggest news. It adds to the growing number of constituents that we may have to drop from our Telecompaper Stock Index European Telecoms as a result of M&A activity. The Manx share ended the week up 15 percent. The TPSI European Telecoms gained 3.2 percent, benefitting mostly from the heavyweights making gains: Deutsche Telekom (+4.0%), Vodafone (+4.9%), Telefonica (+3.0%) and Orange (+4.4%). They currently represent 11.8, 7.1, 6.9 and 6.2 percent of the index, which managed to stay just ahead of the EuroStoxx 50 index (+3.1%).

(Telecompaper) Cyfrowy Polsat outperformed the entire European telecoms sector in week 6, with a gain of 7.9 percent. Tele Columbus, down 13 percent, was to be found at the other extreme. The Telecompaper European Telecoms index ended the week with a loss of 1.5 percent, slightly behind the EuroStoxx 50's -1.1 percent.

(Telecompaper) The Italian government is preparing to ban China's Huawei and ZTE from building the country's 5G network infrastructure over security fears, according to unnamed sources from the defence and foreign affairs ministries cited by local daily La Stampa. The government will make use of the so-called 'golden power' legislation aimed at protecting strategic industries to enable a penalty-free withdrawal from contracts signed with the Chinese giants, said the sources.
