Telecom Egypt obtains 20 MHz spectrum in 2,600 MHz band for USD 305 mln

(Telecompaper) Telecom Egypt has announced that the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has accepted and approved its financial and technical offer for additional spectrum that was submitted on 17 September. The company is expected to receive 20 MHz of spectrum in the 2600 MHz band, using TDD technology with a right of use of ten years for USD 305 million, of which 50 percent will be paid in US dollars upon signing the contracts.
Chile starts 5G tender for 1,800 MHz of spectrum in 4 bands

(Telecompaper) Chile has started its 5G auction, releasing the details for the tender of a total 1,800 MHz in the 700 MHz, AWS (1,800 and 2,100 MHz), 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz bands. The 30-year licences come with obligations to cover public institutions, including hospitals in order to create a national telemedicine network.
Qualcomm, China Broadcasting Network achieve 700 MHz band 5G data call

(Telecompaper) Qualcomm Technologies and China Broadcasting Network (CBN) successfully achieved what they call the world's first large-bandwidth 2x30MHz 5G data call demonstration in the 700MHz (Band n28) FDD spectrum band. This demonstration was operated in compliance with the 2x30MHz technical specifications of CBN's 700MHz FDD band and used a 5G smartphone form factor mobile test device powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System. This demonstration achieved download speeds of more than 300 Mbps and provides a foundation for further enhancing the spectral efficiency of the 700MHz band and accelerating CBN's commercial 5G rollouts nationwide.
Vodafone starts 5G network in half of the Netherlands, via own 1800 MHz spectrum

Spain postpones auction of 5G-ready frequencies in 700 MHz band

(Telecompaper) Spain's Ministry of Economic Affairs has notified the European Commission that it will be unable to hold its auction of 5G-ready spectrum in the 700MHz band before the scheduled EU deadline of 30 June 2020, confirming earlier reports. In a statement, the ministry said the current "State of Alarm" caused by the coronavirus pandemic has led to the decision to suspend the country's digital dividend plan to free up the 700 MHz band for 5G mobile services with a view to ensuring that digital terrestrial television (DTT) reception is not affected by the need to retune antennas.
