Israel awards 1,800 MHz band for 4G
2015-01-13 09:13:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Israel operator Cellcom has been awarded 3 MHz in the 1,800MHz band for ILS 6.5 million per 1MHz. In a statement, the operator said the tender committee also awarded Pelephone Communications 15MHz and each of Partner Communications, Golan Telecom, Hot Mobile and Marathon 018 (a new operator) 5MHz, for ILS 6.4-6.9 million per 1MHz. Partner said it paid in total ILS 33.5 million and will use the spectrum as part of its network-sharing agreeent with Hot. Pelephone's cost was ILS 96 million. The Bezeq subsidiary said it was in the process of expanding its 4G network across the country and already has "hundreds of thousands" of LTE devices on the network. The results of the tender require the approval of the Minister of Communications. The operators are expected to use the frequencies to expand their LTE services.
