The phrase has become all too familiar to commuters who ride the trains between New Jersey and New York: New Jersey Transit trains are delayed because of Amtrak overhead wire problems. Friday's commute got off on the wrong track when Amtrak power problems caused delays for Amtrak and NJ Transit riders for the fourth time this week, adding to a summer that has seen delays of a half hour or more on an average of about once every three working days, according to a review of NJ Transit messages to riders.

Port Authority approves redo of disputed $1 NJ Transit lease

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey officially approved the renegotiation of a lease Thursday for a parking lot used by New Jersey Transit that was the subject of a criminal probe involving the authority's former chairman. Under the lease extension approved by the board of commissioners, NJ Transit will pay $875,000 per year through 2018 for the park-and-ride lot in North Bergen, located on a parcel of land initially acquired by the Port Authority for the construction of the Lincoln Tunnel.
