Port Authority says $1 NJ Transit lease renegotiated for $875K

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says it has reached agreement on a lease for a park-and-ride lot near the Lincoln Tunnel that once went for $1 a year. Authority chairman John Degnan on Thursday said a tentative agreement has been reached with New Jersey Transit.

New Jersey transit to begin express weekend rail service

The train runs from Penn Station New York and northern New Jersey cities to the shore communities, according to an emailed press release from New Jersey Transit. Transportation Commissioner and NJ Transit Chairman Jamie Fox said the service not only has economic benefits, but is good for traffic as well.

BLET conducting strike authorization vote at NJ Transit

BLET National President Dennis R. Pierce announced today that the organization is polling members to authorize a strike in the event one becomes necessary to attain the Organization's bargaining goals at New Jersey Transit . Strike ballots were mailed to over 400 locomotive engineers on June 22. The BLET has been bargaining with NJT for a new contract for locomotive engineers since April 12, 2011.

Coalition slams Democrats over NJ Transit fare-hike proposal

More than a dozen transportation and progressive advocacy groups are sharply criticizing the Democrat-led Legislature and calling on them to allocate more funding to NJ Transit so it can evade an expected fare increase. Members of the New Jersey for Transit coalition said Wednesday the fare increases could hurt working people, lead to more congestion on roads and harm the environment.
