Apple SIM to disrupt mobile operator market

(Telecompaper) Alongside the new iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3, Apple is offering its own SIM card to enable mobile broadband services. Apple SIM enables the user to choose from a range of different carriers and carrier data plans directly from the user interface of the iPad and is currently removable, allowing consumers to use an existing carrier SIM in its place. Apple SIM will initially support AT&T, T-Mobile US, Sprint and EE (UK).

Let's not delude ourselves here: Apple's iPad event was spectacularly dull. There was one interesting feature of the new iPads -- but it was relegated to a page on the Apple website, rather than shown off on-stage. It's called the Apple SIM, and it's the death knell of the humble -- if rather annoying -- SIM card.

Yes that is correct, the best-known example being SIM cards from StarChip who have done native, JavaCard and LTE card designs. Thinking of mobile phones, Cortus has been designed into touchscreen controllers from a number of Asian fabless semiconductor manufacturers e.g. IMAGIS & LeadingUI.
