JOB DESCRIPTION Data Systems Operations engineer SIM area This WO is covering a Sentinels Data Systems Engineering operational service support request, within the Sentinels Data Systems Management Teams,. The main area of expertise for this service request is the Simulator SIM, although support on the area of Mission Control Systems MCS is expected Responsibilities Duties Tasks The primary area of responsibility for this service is for Data Systems Operations Engineering, covering the areas of the following two Mission Data Systems MDS Sentinels Mission Control Systems Engineering support Sentinels Simulators Engineering support For both of these Mission data systems, the service includes Specification of the software requirements of these systems in collaboration with the operational users Definition and specification of their internal and external interfaces in agreement with the relevant parties Acceptance of the deliverables received from industry, ensuring correctness, completeness and compliance to the applicable requirements Support to the mission operations staff as required in the various operational phases, including System Validation Tests, simulation campaign and in software support coordination as part of the Flight Control Team during critical operational phases such as launches Coordination with other internal ESOC or external units, e.g. with the unit supplying mission data systems infrastructure and with the unit supplying the ICT systems and services Participation in research and development activities in the area of mission data systems. Participate in the testing and validation of the various infrastructure elements used by the Sentinels MDS as well as definition of the future evolution of these systems. Collaboration with other missions to ensure crossmission consistency and harmonization between Sentinel and other missions MDS systems, spinin from other missions into the Sentinel MDS and spinout from the Sentinel system to future systems including, but not limited to, future Sentinel missions. Qualifications Aerospace Engineer, Mathematician,Physicist Required knowledge Good SIM knowledge Good MCS knowledge Familiarity with SIMULUS Familiarity with MICONYS Ability to understand and accurately predict behaviour of complex systems Service provision in English Familiarity with programmingscripting languages e.g. C, Java, JavaScript, shell scripting Capability to interact with users in customer oriented manner. This include 1st and 2nd line support. Experience working with operational missions, and particular previous experience with CopernicusSentinels missions Familiarity with the ESOC working environment, procedures and Quality Management System QMS Experience with prelaunch activities and launch campaigns of satellites. Experience in softwaresystem design methodologies Familiarity with effective teamwork principles and team building aspects A proactive attitude towards problem solving and the ability to achieve solutions as required. The United States' National Security Agency and British spy agency GCHQ have hacked into the internal computer network of Gemalto, the world's largest maker of SIM cards, and stolen the cards' encryption keys, according to information in files leaked by whistle-blower Edward Snowden. Gemalto makes about 2 billion SIM cards a year, and sells them to 450 major wireless network carriers worldwide.

Japan carrier NTT DoCoMo says probing reported SIM hack

Japan's biggest mobile phone service provider NTT DoCoMo Inc said it is investigating whether its customers were affected by a reported hack of a key mobile phone component supplied by Gemalto NV. News website The Intercept reported on Friday that the U.S. National Security Agency and Britain's Government Communications Headquarters hacked into Gemalto's systems to steal encryption keys that could unlock security settings on billions of mobile phones.
