Wesfarmers, Australia's biggest private sector employer and owner of the Coles, Kmart and Bunnings juggernauts, has audited almost 4000 factories in Asia that supply its stores to ensure they do not use slave labour or bribery. Wesfarmers said that of the 3888 factories audited, in countries such as China, Bangladesh, Thailand, India and Cambodia, 2139 passed its ethical sourcing audit program while a further 1500 were conditionally approved.

Wesfarmers executive Rob Scottaoe' is one of the biggest winners from an organisational revamp by the Perth-based conglomerate, which will roll its chemicals, energy, resources and industrial safety businesses into one large division. Wesfarmers' three industrial businesses - chemicals and fertilisers, industrial and safety, and resources - will become part of a new industrials division that will be overseen by Mr Scott, a former Wesfarmers Insurance managing director and current financial services managing director for the conglomerate.

Wesfarmers has agreed to take up a ten-year lease at the 16-level Brookfield Place Tower 2, currently under construction in the Perth CBD. As flagged in The West Australian newspaper last month, Wesfarmers will move in to the new premium office block after it is completed at the end of this year.
