Ground Segment Engineer for Future Copernicus Sentinel Missions

We are currently looking for an experienced Ground Segment Engineer to join our international team of young and inspiring engineers and industry professionals, tasked with driving innovation within the Space, Satellite and Earth Observation sector. This role is routed in EUMETSATs commitment to the European Unions Copernicus Earth observation programme and will provide the opportunity to work with leading IT, Space and Earth Observation organisations and domain experts to make a positive impact on society! BACKGROUND Copernicus is the European Unions Earth observation programme, coordinated and managed by the European Commission in partnership with the European Space Agency ESA and EUMETSAT. Its current and future missions are to deliver high quality, wide range Earth observation services providing information to, among other things, improve the management of the environment, understand and mitigate the effects of climate change, and ensure civil security. The Ground Segment Engineer will support future Copernicus Sentinel missions through their participation in ground segment requirements and design studies, and eventually in ground segment developments. Heshe will be involved in the integration, verification validation of the ground segment for JasonCSSentinel6 missions in preparation for similar activities for future Sentinel missions. DUTIES Contribute to the definition of ground segment requirements for future Copernicus Missions of relevance to EUMETSAT With support from the Technical and Scientific Support TSS Department, analyse technical requirements for the payload data processing subsegment and perform design tradeoffs targeting the most costefficient reuse of EUMETSAT infrastructure and knowledge Contribute to the preliminary design of the overall ground segment of the future CO2 monitoring mission in cooperation with ESA, and to the preparation of the full development phase In the design and development phases Followup and support ground segment tasks delegated to the TSS department Followup the design and development of ground segment facilities and required upgrades of multimission ground infrastructure elements Provide ground segment engineering support to system activities. In close coordination with the Sentinel6 System Engineering Operations Preparation Manager Support the completion of JasonCSSentinel6 System Integration, Verification and Validation activities, to prepare for similar activities for Future Sentinel missions. What youll be doing The IT and Ground Systems Security Coordinator will be part of the EUMETSAT corporate security team and will coordinate activities with other relevant technical and operations division of EUMETSAT. Ground Segment System Engineer

JOB LOCATION The position is based in Rome. The availability to make occasional National and International travels is required. Shortstays at our customers premises, based in Italy, may be required only during specific project phases. TASKS The Ground Segment System Engineer shall work on multiple projects and assignments, leading all the internal technical activities with an high degree of autonomy during all the subsystem lifecycle, from the specification up to the operations phase. HeShe shall support proposal preparation and sales activities by leading, preparing and delivering all the required contributions inherent to the job position. The applicant shall be able to Lead development team, in respect to established schedule, costs and performances Perform tradeoff analysis and decide on solutions, techniques and approaches Participate to internal and external meetings and discussions related to relevant issues, participate to and prepare documentation presentation, technical notes, etc for the GS and Subsystems milestones provide all the relevant contribution to upper level reviews. The applicant has 5 10 years of professional experience, on Satellite Mission Ground Segment. The following expertise is considered as mandatory extensive knowledge in Satellite Ground Segment engineering, development, integration and testing Knowledge of ECSS with greater focus on E branch, E70 and E40 disciplines Team coordination experience The following expertise is considered as an advantage involvement in nanosatellite projects for ground segments andor open source mission control software knowledge experience on Flight Dynamics systems and Mission control systems for Earth Observation missions Project management experience Knowledge of Linux OS The applicant shall also possess very good analytical skills very good communications and presentation skills very good technical writing generating and delivering skills high level of written and spoken English sufficient level of written and spoken Italian The position can be opportunely tailored to the applicant level of experience job tasks and associated required degree of autonomy will be consequently adjusted.
