Heineken NV has raised its holding in India's largest brewer United Breweries Ltd to 43 percent by buying 24 million euros worth of additional shares on Wednesday, a spokesman for the Dutch brewer said. Heineken, which bought a 37.5 percent stake in United Breweries in 2008 through its takeover of Scottish & Newcastle, previously owned 42.2 percent of the maker of Kingfisher beer.

European new car sales jumped 14 percent in February, industry data showed on Wednesday, helped by an extra selling day, even allowing Volkswagen's core brand to swing back to growth despite its diesel emissions scandal. But the 4.4 percent increase at the Volkswagen brand was dwarfed by double-digit gains at all other major carmakers, including VW's mass-market rivals Ford, Peugeot and Opel/Vauxhall which surged 19 percent, 14.2 percent and 18.7 percent respectively, European auto industry association ACEA said.

Teen apparel retailer American Eagle Outfitters Inc reported a 3.2 percent rise in quarterly sales, largely helped by demand for its Aerie brand in the holiday shopping season. American Eagle's results, which closely follow rival Abercrombie & Fitch Co's surprise rise in same-store sales, indicate that teen apparel retailers may be winning back young shoppers who were flocking to fast-fashion companies such as Inditex's Zara and H&M.

Brazil raises foreign ownership limit on airlines to 49 pct

Brazil has lifted the legal limit on foreign ownership of local airlines to 49 percent, from 20 percent previously, according to a presidential decree published in the official gazette on Wednesday, opening the door to more help for troubled carriers. Weak domestic demand and the sharp depreciation of Brazil's currency have caused deep operating losses, forcing airlines to cut routes and jobs and seek foreign partners.
