On June 29 , the FTC filed two administrative complaints and issued proposed orders against two Las Vegas auto dealers to resolve allegations that they engaged in misleading advertising practices that misrepresented the purchase price or leasing offers of their vehicles, as well as the amount actually due at signing. In addition, the FTC also contends that the auto dealers failed to disclose other key information in its advertisements, such as the need for a security deposit, whether a down payment was required, and the terms of repayment.

The FTC announced Monday that TC Dealership, L.P.'s Planet Hyundai and JS Autoworld, Inc.'s Planet Nissan have agreed to stop misrepresenting the cost to buy or lease a vehicle. Federal officials said the two businesses indicated false or misleading purchase prices, monthly payments for purchases and leases and down payments in its advertisements.

Three auto dealerships, including one in White Plains, reached a multi-million dollar settlement for for alleged unlawful sale of credit repair and identity theft prevention services that added thousands to the cost of some vehicles on Wednesday, according to New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. The Paragon dealership family, which includes White Plains Honda, will have to pay $6 million in restitution and provide $500 to approximately 15,000 customers for engaging in deceptive sales tactics, including charging consumers for credit repair services and other "after sale" items without the customer's knowledge, the attorney general said.

Auto dealerships agree to pay $135,000 to settle deceptive advertising claims

Bergen Auto Enterprises, which does business as Wayne Mazda and Wayne Auto Mall, agreed to pay $135,000 to settle claims that the dealerships engaged in unconscionable commercial practices and deceptive advertising practices in their advertisement and sale of new and used motor vehicles, according to the Office of the Attorney General and Division of Consumer Affairs. The AG and the consumer affairs division filed suit in August 2014, alleging in its five-count complaint that Bergen Auto Enterprises had violated the Consumer Fraud Act and Motor Vehicle Advertising Regulations, among other things, by engaging in "bait and switch" tactics that featured motor vehicles in advertisements that were not available for purchase or lease.
