Johnson Matthey has bought Sigma-Aldrich's Pharmorphix division to add a 'significant' customer base and expand its European API business. The deal - terms of which were not provided - was prompted by Pharmorphix's capabilities in solid form research, including polymorph studies, salt selection, co-crystallization, chiral separations and process scale-up.

Auto parts maker Johnson Controls plans to cut 3,000 salaried employees from its global workforce over the next two years as part of a cost-reduction push. The cuts amount to more than 2 percent of the Milwaukee company's workforce of 130,000.
