(Telecompaper) Dixons Carphone reported a strong finish to 2015, with like-for-like revenues up 5 percent year-on-year in the 10 weeks ended 9 January 2016. Sales in the UK & Ireland rose 5 percent, its Nordic markets grew by 3 percent, and Southern Europe was up 9 percent. As a result, the retailer expected to report headline pretax profit for the year of GBP 440-450 million, slightly ahead of the market consensus. In addition to the benefits of the Dixons and Cartphone Warehouse merger, the company said it was winning market share in the UK mobile market and benefited from a strong Black Friday campaign.

Carphone Warehouse confirms UK security breach

(Telecompaper) Dixons Carphone confirmed that the IT systems of a UK division of Carphone Warehouse have been breached by a major cyber attack. This division operates the Mobiles.co.uk, e2save.com and OneStopPhoneShop.com websites. It also provides a number of services to iD Mobile, TalkTalk Mobile, Talk Mobile and to certain customers of Carphone Warehouse. Dixons Carphone has implemented additional security measures and opened an investigation with a cyber security company to determine exactly what was affected. Initial investigations indicate that hackers may have access personal data including name, address, date of birth and bank details of up to 2.4 million customers. In addition, the encrypted credit card data of up to 90,000 customers may also have been accessed.
