Italian govt says EUR 2.2 bn in broadband funds ready

(Telecompaper) The Italian government said EUR 2.2 billion of public funds are now available to begin work on the country's EUR 12 billion broadband expansion plan. The Italian state and EU structural funds will provide a total of EUR 7 billion and operators are expected to provide the rest of the money. The Ministry of Economic Development said the first tenders for the funding will start in the autumn. The plan will prioritize rural zones that contain 35 percent of the population but which are unable to attract private investment.

BT signs up 60,000 TV, 85,000 broadband customers in Q1

(Telecompaper) BT Group has reported revenue of GBP 4.28 billion for the first quarter ending 30 June, down 2 percent from a year earlier, with group EBITDA up 1 percent to GBP 1.45 billion. Adjusted profit before tax was up 9 percent to GBP 694 million. BT confirmed that superfast fibre broadband was now available to more than 23 million premises across the UK, with a take-up rate of 20 percent. BT Consumer revenue was up 3 percent year-on-year to GBP 1.07 billion, with broadband and TV revenue up 7 percent. BT Consumer EBITDA increased 7 percent to GBP 254 million. BT said that over 100,000 customers have signed up for its consumer mobile offering in the three months since re-entering the market in March. It added 217,000 retail fibre broadband customers in Q1 to reach a total of 3.2 million. Overall UK market broadband customer additions were 149,000 in Q1, with BT Retail accounting for 85,000 (57%). Consumer ARPU increased 5 percent to GBP 419 driven mainly by broadband, including the effect of people moving to fibre. BT added 60,000 BT TV customers in Q1, taking the TV customer base to 1.2 million. BT Sport average daily audience figures increased 51 percent during the quarter.
