Although US apparel imports from Bangladesh have rebounded in the first half, the low-cost country could find it difficult in the coming years to compete with Vietnam which benefits from its abiliy to deliver large quantities of man-made fiber apparel. Vietnam could also have a duy-free access to the US market under the just concluded TPP. On the other hand, Bangladesh may continue prevailing in a few key cotton categories whereas increasingly delivering MMF apparel, as reflected by our tables offering a comprehensive product analysis of an emerging competition between the tow countries.
