Gevo scores Supreme Court win in biofuels patent battle with Butamax

Gevo Inc. , which specializes in turning corn into fuel and feedstocks for the chemical industry, said Tuesday that it has scored a win at the U.S. Supreme Court. The news comes the week after Douglas County-based Gevo, facing losses and with a share price well below $1, said it was cutting its headquarters staff by 41 percent, from 56 to 33. The Supreme Court on Monday ordered that a long-running legal battle between Gevo and rival biofuels company Butamax Advanced Biofuels LLC be remanded back to the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals for further review.

Giant Eagle announces end to patent dispute over fuel perks

Giant Eagle announced today that charges made against it in a patent dispute over its fuel perks program have been dismissed. Dallas-based Excentus Corp. filed a lawsuit against O'Hara Township-based Giant Eagle Inc. in February 2013, claiming the grocer infringed on its patents and claimed it provided software to run its fuelperks! program.

The Indian patent office's rejection of a key patent for Gilead Sciences' Hepatitis C treatment Sovaldi may pave the way for more low-cost copies in the country. The New Delhi patent office this week rejected one of the patents for Sovaldi on the grounds that it "lacks novelty" and lacks an inventive step.
