Coming up to two years after Duke Energy announced plans to provide clean energy contracts for industrial-sized users, the pilot program remains untapped. In its first annual filing for the Green Source Rider, approved in December 2013, Charlotte-based Duke says it is in negotiations with data centers, manufacturers and college campuses as potential customers.

The V.C. Summer Nuclear Station under construction in South Carolina will employ the same AP1000 reactor design Duke Energy proposes for its W.S. Lee Nuclear station. Duke Energy spent $23.2 million from July through December on planning and pre-construction work for its proposed $11 billion Lee Nuclear Station near Gaffney, S.C. That brings Duke's annual total to nearly $45 million.
N.C. Supreme Court upholds Duke Energy's 5.1% rate hike

N.C. WARN Executive Director Jim Warren says the ruling allows Duke Energy to reduce charges to large industrial users at the expense of small customers. The N.C. Supreme Court has upheld the most recent Duke Energy Carolinas rate increase, ruling in the last of a spate of challenges to Duke utility rate cases filed by the N.C. Attorney General's Office and advocacy groups.
