Samsung Electronics chairman Lee Kun-hee will remain at the Samsung Medical Centre in Seoul, where he has been receiving treatment since May last year following a heart attack, despite the hospital being one of the hospitals hardest hit by the outbreak of Middle East respiratory syndrome that is causing spreading panic in the country. Parent company Samsung Group has no plans to transfer the 73-year-old, Yonhap news agency reported on Sunday, citing a person it did not identify.

Apatorsen added to first-line chemotherapy benefits metastatic bladder cancer patients

OncoGenex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced that results from an exploratory analysis of the Phase 2 Borealis-1 trial showed that metastatic bladder cancer patients with poor prognostic features benefited from apatorsen 600mg added to first-line chemotherapy compared to chemotherapy alone. Patients in the trial with a Karnofsky Performance Status of 80 percent or less, a common indicator of poor prognosis, experienced a 50 percent reduction in risk of death with the addition of apatorsen therapy .

Vowing to make precision medicine more than a hackneyed phrase, researchers at the American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting disclosed the launch of three separate but complementary efforts in what amounts to the "expansion of an ongoing dream," said past ASCO president Clifford Hudis. A medical oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, Hudis said medicine needs to find new ways of evaluating drugs according to the molecular characteristics of tumors.

Angiochem, a clinical stage biotechnology company creating and developing drugs that cross the blood-brain barrier, today announced that results from an ongoing multi-center Phase II study were presented on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the 2015 American Society for Clinical Oncology annual meeting being held in Chicago. The trial was designed to evaluate the activity of ANG1005, a novel taxane-peptide conjugate able to cross the blood brain barrier and enter cancer cells by targeting the LRP-1 receptor, in metastatic breast cancer patients.
