Welcome to the dead zone: Our planets greatest cities are facing major pollution crisis

2014-03-23 06:13:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Salon: Last week, Paris and Beijing had one of those feuds that city-watchers love so much. (Such head-to-head battles, like great inter-urban sporting events, fuel the illusion that cities are singular, indivisible, cultural entities.) In this case, it was a race to the bottom: Observers noticed, during the five-day air quality crisis in Paris last week, that there was more particulate matter in the Parisian atmosphere than in Beijing. NASAs Kepler discovers 715 new planets, many of which are near-Earth size

2014-02-27 15:56:11| Extremetech

Using a brand new and totally out of this world statistical astrophysical mathematical approach, NASA's Kepler mission has announced the discovery of 715 new planets -- almost doubling the total number of known exoplanets to nearly 1,700. These planets orbit just 305 stars, meaning they belong to multiple-planet solar systems just like our own -- and, perhaps excitingly, nearly all of the planets are smaller than Neptune, which is only four times larger than Earth (most planets discovered before now have been much larger and not Earth-like).
