Google touts its community outreach efforts, including sponsoring office tours for schoolchildren and other groups to create excitement about computer science, but it hasn't taken on the kind of public philanthropic profile that "old economy" companies from H.J. Heinz to BNY Mellon, which moved its corporate headquarters in 2007 from Pittsburgh to Manhattan, or even somewhat newer health care entities such as UPMC have fostered. If you ask Google community affairs officer Matt Dunne, the city shouldn't count on the company ever reaching those levels.
