Duke Energy has agreed to pay Virginia a $2.5 million settlement for its February 2014 coal ash spill into the Dan River. The spill at a retired power plant in Eden dumped up to 39,000 tons of ash into the river, which flows north into Virginia.

Reno Police tell us the accident happened just north of Auto Center Drive and as crews work to clean up the accident, south bound traffic on South Virginia has been reduced to one lane until just past the accident. RPD says the driver was an elderly man and had to be extricated from the vehicle but his injuries are non life-threatening.
