West Virginia judge denies chemical company's second challenge to fracking operations

A West Virginia judge has rejected a second legal challenge from a chemical manufacturer saying that hydraulic fracturing operations near its facility in Marshall County would negatively affect its operations. In a Christmas Eve order, Marshall County Circuit Judge David Hummel denied the challenge from Eagle Natrium LLC, a New Martinsville-based subsidiary of Axiall Corp., a manufacturer of chlorovinyl and aromatic chemicals and formerly owned by PPG Industries.

Atlantic Coast Pipeline opponents propose study in western Virginia

Opponents of the proposed 550-mile Atlantic Coast Pipeline want Nelson County to study the impact of the line's 35-mile route through the Virginia county, offering to provide information and expertise to help perform it. State of Virginia forms innovative, market-based water quality trading program

On Tuesday, Dec. 16, the Environmental Protection Agency joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture , White House Council on Environmental Quality , Commonwealth of Virginia, and others to recognize an innovative, market-based water quality trading program run by the state of Virginia to improve the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay . The organizations convened at the McConnell Safety Transportation Operation Center, in Fairfax, Va., where they highlighted the cost-effective program that has saved the Commonwealth more than $1 million, demonstrating an innovative means of meeting Clean Water Act stormwater requirements and Virginia state water quality goals for the Bay.
