Source: Council for Agricultural Science and Technology A task force of scientists for the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST) issued a report Monday examining the facts and providing science-based research to clarify the “feed vs. food” issue. To some, animal agriculture is bad. Those folks mistakenly believe that animal agriculture takes away human food supplies and wastes resources. In this CAST Issue Paper, scientific experts address the knowledge gap that exists as to the quantity of human food and fiber by-products used within animal agriculture. read more

CME to halt delivery of cattle given feed additive Zilmax

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange will no longer accept delivery of cattle fed the growth additive Zilmax on Oct. 7 to conform with exchange guidelines for deliveries against CME live cattle futures, said CME in a statement on Monday.

Low Cattle Inventories Helping Cattle On Feed Report

John Otte for Beef Producer USDA tallied the Sept. 1, 2013 cattle on feed inventory at 9.876 million head, that's 92.3% of the Sept. 1, 2012 value and about 0.7% below the average trade guess in advance of the report. read more
