Patients with hepatitis C have yet another advanced treatment option, as the Food and Drug Administration on Thursday approved a new once-a-day pill developed by drugmaker Merck. The FDA said Merck can begin marketing Zepatier for patients with two of the subtypes the liver-destroying virus, types 1 and 4. The combination pill includes the medications elbasvir and grazoprevir, which attack the virus in two different ways.

Time Warner Cable is raising its Internet and TV rates for customers in New York state just a week after getting approval from state regulators for its $55 billion merger with Charter Communications. Charter, which will get Time Warner Cable's 2.6 million New York customers in the deal, is known for its low-price, high speed Internet and uncomplicated menu of offerings.

A procession of more than 100 disappointed citizens filed out of a Virginia State Water Control Board meeting late Thursday afternoon after the agency approved permits for Dominion Virginia Power to begin draining water from coal ash ponds on sites in Fluvanna and Prince William counties into the James and Potomac rivers. Over the past few months, the permit applications have stirred opposition against Dominion Virginia Power by local and regional environmental groups such as the James River Association and the Southern Environmental Law Center.
Gresham OKs tax break for Microchip

The Gresham City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to give Microchip Technology a $2.04 million property tax break to help it with a nearly $40 million expansion at its semiconductor plant on Southeast Stark Street. It's the ninth company to get one and the 13th tax break approved by the council since Gresham created six enterprise zones in 2006 to encourage industrial expansion.
