Inflation has been kept under control in most emerging countries with however Turkey and Pakistan being both confronted with surging consumer prices. Pakistan benefits from the support of China and the IMF whereas Turkey is partly refusing to implement necessary financial constraints for reducing its inflation rate. Our monthly report offers a comparison of inflation rates in low-cost countries, with historical data available back to June 2007. Impact of currency changes vs the US dollar, the euro and the Sterling is also calculated to assess real terms of trade for exporters.

EU's clothing imports are no more rising in volume terms amid a sharp fall of Chinese shipments. Unit value have surged in March in euro terms although stable in US$ terms. Imports from Bangladesh have continued sharply increasing, reflecting the current shift in European buying from China to the low-income country. Our report covers monthly EU clothing import data, with historical trends being analyzed, and a specific focus on China vs Rest of World (RoW) and Bangladesh, and on knit vs woven clothing. Textile fiber prices have begun tumbling across the board on the international market and on domestic markets in Asia after US President Trump has decided raising import tariffs on a series of Chinese products. An already depressed textile market was actually betting on a sharp increase of China's buying of US cotton. The weakness of demand for textiles this year in China is now pushing down all fiber prices to lower levels, acrylic excepted. Our tables and charts offer a 3-month and 12-month price comparison of most used textile fibers, including cotton, polyester, viscose, wool, acrylic and nylon, all being available for download on a weekly basis through our historical csv file.
