Oracle Launches New Servers - And War of Words With IBM
2013-03-28 22:49:00| TechNewsWorld
Oracle launched new midrange and high-end Sparc T5 and M5 servers this week with claims that the T5 models have set 17 world records and performed better than IBM's Power 780 series. That set off a round of dueling statements between the companies. "Most Oracle benchmark claims are not audited or published, although they do have some industry benchmarks, including TPC-C (Transaction Processing Performance Council)," said IBM spokesperson Jeff Cross.
IBM takes a step towards building artificial semiconductor synapses
2013-03-27 18:40:44| Extremetech
Researchers at IBM have discovered a way to change the conductive properties of a metal oxide layer using an ionic fluid rather than a conventional electric charge. Building artificial synapses may have just become a little easier.

IBM moves toward post-silicon transistor
2013-03-21 22:44:32| InfoWorld: Top News
Exploring methods of computing without silicon, IBM has found a way to make transistors that could be fashioned into virtual circuitry that mimics how the human brain operates. The proposed transistors would be made from strongly correlated materials, which researchers have found to posses characteristics favorable for building more powerful, less power-hungry computation circuitry.

With a drop of liquid, IBM develops a new microchip switch
2013-03-21 19:00:00| CNET News.com
Ionic liquids can switch the state of a metal oxide from conducting to insulating and back again, something that could be useful for computer processing and memory. [Read more]
