The U.S. Department of Justice and the North Carolina Department of Justice recently requested court approval of a consent decree arising out of alleged racial discrimination by two North Carolina car dealerships in their auto finance practices. The U.S. Department of Justice called it the federal government's first-ever discrimination settlement involving "buy here, pay here" auto financing.

Tommy Ray Bolton, 39, of Leland, is charged with felony larceny of $1,200 in copper wiring from DAK Americas located in Leland on Dec. 7. Jason Eugene Bolton, 37, of Leland, and cousin of the Bolton, is also charged with felony larceny for the same incident. A New York City police officer has turned himself in after allegedly attacking a female Metropolitan Transportation Authority employee on Dec. 23. Police said the off-duty officer had an argument with the 28-year-old MTA worker on the southbound platform of the D Train in the Bronx around 2:30 a.m. He then allegedly grabbed her and placed her in a bear hug before throwing her to the ground and chocking her. "I'm totally outraged," Joe Costales, chairman of Transport Workers Union Local 100, told the New York Daily News .

NJ Transit passenger allegedly pulls knife on train conductor

Authorities have detained a passenger who allegedly pulled a knife on a New Jersey Transit train conductor while the train was in motion. The passenger was arrested when the train stopped at the Red Bank station in Monmouth County.
