The sleepy community of Four Lakes will have an added bustle to it soon with the completion of the Highline Grain terminal and accompanying track upgrades allowing Burlington Northern Santa Fe unit trains to efficiently ship Northwest crops to markets worldwide. Despite a return to a more traditional winter, the various elements of the project were on track to begin operation early in 2016.

CN, CP exceed Western grain revenue entitlements, ordered to pay back $9M

The Canadian Transportation Agency says the country's two main railways have exceeded their Western grain revenue entitlements for the 2014-2015 crop year and must repay those sums along with penalties. According to the transportation agency, Canadian National Railway's grain revenue of $745,068,906 was $6,866,595 above its entitlement, while Canadian Pacific Railway received $2,137,168 above its revenue entitlement of $724,045,774.

Canadian railways penalized for excess grain revenues

Dec 29 The Canadian government said on Tuesday that it has fined the country's two big railways, Canadian National Railway Co and Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd, for earning too much revenue from hauling western grain during the 2014/15 crop marketing year. Ottawa implemented the grain revenue cap in 2000 after it eliminated a subsidy for grain movement by rail called the Crow Rate.
