Freenet says to vote against Sunrise rights issue for UPC takeover

(Telecompaper) German operator Freenet announced it will vote against Sunrise's planned share issue to finance the takeover of UPC Switzerland. Freenet is the largest shareholder in Sunrise with a 24.5 percent stake. An EGM is planned for this autumn to vote on the CHF 4.1 billion rights issue.

Freenet results up slightly in line with outlook, loses 27,500 postpaid customers in Q2

(Telecompaper) German operator Freenet reported results for the first half of 2019 up slightly, in line with its full-year outlook. However, the company continued to lose postpaid mobile customers, with a drop of 27,500 in Q2.

Freenet reluctant to join Sunrise rights issue for UPC takeover

(Telecompaper) German operator Freenet is not pleased with the proposed structure of Sunrise's takeover of UPC Switzerland and may not participate in the rights issue called by Sunrise to fund the deal. While the deal has industrial logic, the company said, Freenet would prefer to see a merger of the companies, rather than Sunrise taking on all the financial risks, Freenet's CFO Ingo Arnold told news agency dpa-AFX.

Freenet buys 24% in Swiss operator Sunrise

(Telecompaper) German operator Freenet is continuing its expansion through takeovers with the purchase of a 23.83 percent stake in the Swiss operator Sunrise. Freenet said it agreed to pay EUR 714 million for the shares from CVC Capital and will buy another 0.73 percent in the company next month. Both Freenet's CEO, Christoph Vilanek and its CFO, Joachim Preisig will have a seat on Sunrise's board of directors. Freenet said it's been studying Sunrise for some time and sees similarities in its business model to the German operator, in terms of cash orientation and the financial profile.
