Inter Press Service: On a late Friday afternoon as choking smog descended on the Indian Capital, Francois Richier, the French ambassador to India , took some hard questions from scores of journalists about the upcoming climate change talks in Paris this month. The journalists were discussing the run up to global climate change Conference of Parties, COP 21, which starts 30th November in Paris and one of the reoccurring sentiments was that this meeting is a done deal and that little if anything would be accomplished....

Associated Press: Governments' emissions-cutting pledges ahead of a global conference in December are a good step toward achieving an international global warming goal, but they aren't yet enough, the U.N. climate chief said Friday. The plans submitted by 146 countries for the climate conference in Paris could cut average global emissions per capita of greenhouse gases by up to 8 percent by 2025 and 9 percent by 2030 compared with 1990 levels, a U.N. assessment found. U.N. climate chief Christiana Figueres'...

UN: Paris climate plans cut emissions just 10% by 2030

Climate Home: The UN has released a mixed report card on nearly 150 plans submitted by countries ahead of a proposed global deal to slash greenhouse gas emissions. A 67-page study compiled by UN officials says the intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs) from governments represent a significant shift in attitudes towards tackling climate change. But echoing previous assessments by analysts, it warns global warming is on course to break through the 2C above pre-industrial levels deemed dangerous....

BBC: Global experts are meeting in Morocco to assess the adequacy of politicians' pledges to protect the climate. So far, about 150 nations have promised the UN to curb (NB: Not cut) CO2 emissions, but analysts say the pledges are not enough. One think-tank, Climate Analytics, estimates promises so far will lead to a global temperature rise of about 2.7C - well over the 2C "safety threshold". At the Morocco meeting of 36 nations, governments will judge the pledges for themselves. The EU proposed...
Climate change: India's vow to reduce emissions ambitious & realistic

Economic Times: India's intended nationally determined contribution, or INDC, to combating climate change is out. By 2030, it will reduce the amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per unit of GDP by 33-35% from its 2005 levels, increase the share of nonfossil fuels to 40% of total generation capacity; and increase its forest and tree cover to create an additional carbon sink for 2.5-3 billion tonnes carbon dioxide-equivalent. The plan is ambitious and achievable. It builds on India's ambitious climate actions...
