Paper in OSA Research Jounal shows light slows in twists.
2016-03-30 14:31:08| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
In Optical Society's (OSA) research journal, Optica, researchers at University of Ottawa report that twisted light pulses in vacuum travel up to 0.1% slower than speed of light. Research team leader Ebrahim Karimi noted that this fact is of importance to anyone intent on using twisted light for quantum communication. According to Karimi and fellow paper author Frederic Bouchard, twisted light holds great potential for encoding in quantum communication and quantum computers.

OSA Journal details new liquid crystals for vehicle displays.
2016-02-11 14:31:08| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
"High performance liquid crystals for vehicle displays," published in Optical Materials Express, reports results of Shin-Tson Wu and colleagues, who developed 3 new liquid crystal mixtures that overcome upper and lower operation temperature limitations. According to Wu, liquid crystals should have clearing point higher than 100°C (212°F) and melting point below -40°C (-40°F). Accomplishment was brought about by mixing one dozen 3- and 4-ring compounds together with LMW compounds.
