Dutch mobile market slows drop in service revenues in Q3

2014-11-26 15:16:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) The Dutch mobile market started to show signs of stabilisation in the third quarter, with revenues flat compared to Q2, according to research by Telecompaper. On an annual basis, mobile service revenues in the Netherlands were still down 6.4 percent to EUR 1.26 billion in Q3, but the drop slowed from an annual decline of around 8 percent in the previous three quarters. The market continues to suffer from the weak economy, which is driving a shift to cheaper SIM-only offers and low-cost brands as well as lower out-of bundle revenues. The Q3 performance is in line with Telecompaper's full-year outlook for a fall of 6.5-7.0 percent in service revenues. For the period 2014-2018, the Dutch market is expected to show a negative CAGR of 3.0 percent, reaching around EUR 4.6 billion in revenues in 2018.

Nokia returns to mobile market with N1 Android tablet

2014-11-18 10:47:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Nokia has returned to the mobile device market with the N1, the first Nokia-branded Android tablet. Designed by Nokia and running its Nokia Z Launcher interface, the tablet is built under a brand-licensing agreement with an unnamed OEM responsible for manufacturing, distribution and sales. The tablet will launch in Q1 2015 in China, for a recommended price of USD 249 before taxes. Nokia said it aims to expand sales to other markets later. According to the company, the N1 was designed with simplicity in mind. The Z Launcher allows users to scribble a letter or two to find their content quickly. Over time the Z Launcher learns what applications are in use, and predicts and highlights the applications consumers are expected to want based on time of day and location. The tablet features a 7.9-inch display, one-piece aluminum body, a 2.4Ghz Intel Atom quad-core processor and the Android Lollipop operating system. In addition to the Nokia brand, Nokia is licensing the industrial design, Z Launcher software layer and IP on a running royalty basis to the OEM partner. The partner is responsible for full business execution, from engineering and sales to customer care, including liabilities and warranty costs, inbound IP and software licensing and contractual agreements with third parties.
