FTC's $1.2 Billion Disgorgement Settlement With Cephalon:...

On May 28, 2015, the Federal Trade Commission announced the settlement of its 2008 lawsuit against Cephalon, Inc. , which alleged that Cephalon had made "reverse payments" to four generic drug manufacturers in order to delay sales of generic versions of its branded sleep disorder drug Provigil. According to the FTC, Cephalon had agree to pay the four generic companies a total of more than $300 million, purportedly for the purchase of an active pharmaceutical ingredient, the licensing of intellectual property, and the co-development rights in a new drug.

Corrective Action Earns Verizon End to FTC's FiOS Router Investigation

Corrective action taken by Verizon Communications to fix security issues with its FiOS and DSL routers resulted in the FTC closing its investigation to determine whether Verizon's distribution of the routers was an unfair or deceptive practice. According to the FTC, Verizon regularly shipped routers to consumers with the default security set to the outdated WEP standard, which has been known for a decade to have weaknesses that leave users of the routers vulnerable to hackers.

Auto Dealer Agrees to Settle FTC's Deceptive Advertising Charges

Courtesy Auto Group of Attleboro, Massachusetts, has agreed to resolve Federal Trade Commission charges that the dealership violated the FTC Act by deceptively advertising that consumers could lease a vehicle for $0 down and specific monthly payments when, in fact, the advertised amounts excluded substantial fees.
