Apples iPhone 6 is more durable, less breakable than iPhone 5S, Galaxy S5, One M8
2014-09-23 15:31:41| Extremetech
The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, along with being the largest phones Apple has ever built, are also the toughest and most durable. Perhaps even more importantly, the iPhone 6 beats out the durability of other Android phones in the same class (the HTC One M8 and the Moto X), and the iPhone 6 Plus is the most rugged smartphone with a screen larger than five inches, beating out the Galaxy S5.

Apples A8 SoC analyzed: The iPhone 6 chip is a 2-billion-transistor 20nm monster
2014-09-10 16:55:22| Extremetech
Powering both the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is Apple's new A8 SoC. This new chip, which contains around two billion transistors, will be one of the first mass-market components to use TSMC's 20nm process. The A8 SoC will, according to Apple, be about 25% faster than its predecessor in CPU tasks, and 50% faster on the GPU side of things. These are some big performance gains that are made even more impressive by the fact that the A8 is reportedly 50% more power efficient than the A7 -- and, despite almost doubling the transistor count, the die size is somehow 13% smaller. Read on for some detailed analysis of Apple's new A8 SoC.

Apples iPhone 6 event: Updated live blog and video stream
2014-09-09 17:15:20| Extremetech
Later today, Apple will reveal its latest hardware for the world to see. The rumor mill is betting heavily that Cupertino will announce the long-awaited iWatch and larger iPhone models, but anything could happen. We'll definitely see new hardware at the event, but you'd be wise to take all of these rumors with a grain of salt. Regardless of what Apple has lined up for us, video of the entire event is being streamed live, and I'll be live blogging the whole time. Check back here at 1pm ET (10am PT, 5pm UTC), and be the first to see what Tim Cook has up his sleeves.
How to watch Apples iPhone 6 event live stream on Windows and Android
2014-09-09 14:11:09| Extremetech
Later today, Apple will unveil the iPhone 6 at a special event in Cupertino, California. Somewhat unusually for Apple, it will be broadcasting a live video stream of the event -- but, for reasons we still can't fathom, Apple restricts the official feed to people watching on an iOS or OS X device. Fortunately, if you're a Windows (or Android) user, we have a couple of solutions for watching live video of Apple's event.
