Applications Business Analyst

For one of our main customers ESAHarwell based in Oxford, UK, we are currently looking for a Applications Business Analyst Engineer. The holder of this post will report to the Head of the Applications Business Office and support ESAs ARTES Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems applications programmes Europewide. ARTES is a highly flexible programmatic tool that allows multiple forms of participation. It is also designed to address various levels of proximity to market requirements. Tasks and Responsibilities The holder of this post will 1. Focus on two or three market sectors or technology trends that have major potential for new spacebased applications e.g. renewable energy, electricity networks, smart cities, machinetomachine communications, oceanography and marine management 2. Build relationships with both user communities and service industries within the agreed target sectors, bringing them together to identify and develop new spacebased services and applications that meet real, largescale needs 3. Identify potential sources of thirdparty funding for projects in these target sectors e.g. venture capitalists, investment funds, service providers, other development programmes and develop mechanisms for cofunding largescale activities with them, which might otherwise be beyond the capacity of any of the individual partners 4. Work with other members of the ABO to provide access to a portfolio of business support services that meet the needs of the partners involved in ESA applications development projects e.g. business case development, advice on corporate and management structures, preferential access to technical facilities, IPR protection, regulatory assistance, distribution strategy, partnership brokering and access to finance and help to make this portfolio widely known and used 5. Contribute to an analysis of the economic impact of specific IAP projects and to the development of a methodology for measuring that impact on a programmewide basis 6. Cooperate with the European network of IAP Ambassadors and with the Awareness Section of the TIAA Department on matters relating to business development, marketing and awarenessraising 7. Cooperate with the Feasibility Studies and Demonstration Project teams in Estec and Harwell on matters relating to the provision of business support services and thirdparty funding to organisations who are undertaking cofunded activities within the ARTES Applications programmes 8. Cooperate and coordinate with other ESA and external programmes as required, under the direction of the Head of the Applications Business Office. Experience and Education Proven track record in business development or business support services, especially for hightech industries, startups and ideally applications development Solid background in finance andor business administration, ideally with experience in financing and organising new business ventures and the use of PFIPPP structures Preferably some familiarity with the downstream space sector i.e. the provision of services and applications based on space systems and with relevant space technologies i.e. satellite communications, navigation and earth observation Well connected to the innovation and business incubation ecosystem of one or more major European countries Educated to at least first degree level or equivalent, with qualifications in business, finance or social sciences being of greater relevance than those in scientific or engineering disciplines, although a combination of the two would be ideal Sensitive to multicultural and political issues Selfmotivated, determined and very capable of independent action but willing to take broad direction from above and to respect complex policy constraints Cooperative, positive and generally easy to get along with Good presenter highly articulate Mastery of the English language is a requirement business fluency in French andor another major European language would be an advantage Available at short notice maximum three months, preferably one month.
