Reuters: Peru has declared a 60-day state of emergency in towns in 14 regions to brace for possible damage from the climate pattern El Nino in the rainy season, state media reported Sunday. Peru has forecast a "moderate to strong" El Nino in the winter season and has not ruled out an extraordinary event in the summer, which begins in December in the southern hemisphere. An Allegiant Air flight made an emergency landing at St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport Friday night, the third time in the last month Allegiant pilots have been forced to declare an emergency at the Pinellas County facility. Flight 977 departed Ashville, N.C., bound for Punta Gorda but was forced to divert to St. Pete-Clearwater because of bad weather, the airline said.

A Bangkok-bound flight operated by a Chinese airline made an emergency landing Friday afternoon after an engine fire warning lit up, China Southern Airlines said. Crew members later found no fire or smoke in the engines, and no major injuries were reported, the airline said in a statement.
